Are you covered for losses due to wildfire?

Generally speaking, fire is a covered loss and does not have many exclusions or conditions like other types of exposures. After 9/11, the insurance companies had to deal with the large magnitude of terrorism exposure; therefore, they excluded terrorism losses with an option to include them with an additional premium. That creates an issue; even though the fire is a covered loss, if it is the result of intentional arson, it may be considered terrorism. In this case, the coverage is questionable, including extra expense and loss of use or income.

My suggestion is do not exclude terrorism coverage, and if you have excluded it, ask your agent to add the coverage.
